Tubridy’s Toys
In 2017 while working in RTÉ, everyone was getting ready for the biggest event of the year. The Late Late Toy Show.
The idea of doing a game had been around for years but never went beyond the conversation phase.
Throughout this year however we had gotten familiar with the process involved in making games so we knew exactly what we needed to do.
Like any idea or project i started out with a loose prototype using graphics from opengameart.org . The inial concept was simply santa and his reindeer flying through the sky collecting gifts.
The original prototype was enough to get the team on board and the design team began creating some stunning graphics.
As the game was being designed/built we experimented with several ideas on how to make it more entertaining.
To make it a little more fun, we added concept of dropping the presents on houses once they were collected.
We took it one step further and introduced the ‘Good/bad’ houses.
When we had a beta version ready we presented it to the producers of the Late Late who in turn showed it Ryan Tubridy. Ryan loved it so much he recorded several soundbite for us which was the cherry on toy.
My favourite piece of the game was when one of our designers played with the late late theme tune to make it fit in with the rest of the game.
